Hospice Eligibility Criteria

Patients may qualify for hospice care if they meet the following conditions:

  1. Have a limited life expectancy.
  2. Curative treatments have ended, with care now focused on emotional, physical, and spiritual comfort.
  3. The patient, family, or responsible party chooses not to pursue aggressive treatments, major surgeries, or extensive hospitalizations.
  4. The attending physician has approved hospice care.

Who Pays for Hospice Care?

Hospice services are generally covered by Medicare Part A, Medi-Cal, and most private insurance plans.
